Celestyal Cancels Arabian Gulf Winter 2026/27, Adds Mediterranean Sailings Instead

After months trapped in the Gulf, Celestyal won’t return for winter 2026/27 — here’s where sailings moved and what to book instead.

What happened

Celestyal Cruises has cancelled its entire Arabian Gulf winter 2026/27 season, citing continued Strait of Hormuz instability after both ships spent months trapped in the Gulf earlier this year. Trade reports published May 27–29, 2026 confirm the Greek line will not risk a return to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Jeddah while commercial transit through Hormuz remains effectively closed.

The scrubbed program covered 51 sailings on Celestyal Discovery (November 20, 2026 through March 11, 2027) and 34 sailings on Celestyal Journey (November 14, 2026 through March 26, 2027). It follows an earlier exit in 2026, when Celestyal cancelled 41 cruises and kept both ships in Doha and Dubai for months before they transited Hormuz in April.

Celestyal is not alone in pulling Middle East capacity. MSC Cruises moved MSC World Europa's winter 2026/27 deployment from the Middle East to the Caribbean amid the same regional disruption — a pivot we flagged in our MSC summer 2026 campaign coverage.

Where the sailings went

Rather than idle the fleet, Celestyal is redeploying both ships toward the Mediterranean.

Celestyal Discovery picks up six Iconic Greek Islands sailings — two in November 2026 and four in March 2027. The ship will also launch a first Western Mediterranean winter program for 2026/27 and 2027/28; bookings open June 15, 2026, with full port lists promised ahead of the sale.

Celestyal Journey adds four March 2027 departures split between Heavenly Greece, Italy and Croatia and Idyllic Greece itineraries — a mix of Adriatic and Greek-island routing for travelers who wanted Gulf sunshine but can pivot to classic Med scenery.

Travel advisors have been notified, and Celestyal says it is working with booked guests on rebooking support. The line is also running its Iconic Sale on current Mediterranean inventory through June 30, 2026 — worth a look if you are pricing Greek Islands sailings now while Western Med details are still pending.

What this means for you

If you booked a Celestyal Gulf sailing: pause before you shop alternatives. The line and your travel advisor should reach out with rebooking options first — Gulf inventory is off the table, but you may land on one of the added Greek Islands sailings or a future Western Med date once June 15 pricing drops.

If you were comparing Gulf vs Mediterranean winter sun: Celestyal just made that decision easier. Extra November and March Greek Islands capacity gives value-focused Med shoppers more dates on a mid-size ship without hunting a mega-liner. Western Med fans should mark June 15 for Discovery's new program, then compare against other lines' winter Med sailings — including itinerary changes like Princess dropping Istanbul from select 2027 sailings as Eastern Med ports shift.

If Arabian Gulf plans are off entirely: mainstream lines are sending some winter capacity to the Caribbean instead — but if your pivot is toward Celestyal's new Med routes, start with seven-night Mediterranean sailings. When we checked on May 31, 2026, Europe sailings on our site showed more than 26,000 bookable dates with lead-in fares from about $339 per person including taxes and fees — a practical place to price Greek Islands and Western Med weeks while Celestyal's June 15 sale details land.
