We book Brilliance of the Seas for shoppers who want Royal Caribbean glass and midsize scale—not Oasis neighborhoods. She’s a 2002 Radiance-class ship that still does immersive itineraries larger sisters can’t, with enough dining and Adventure Ocean structure for mixed-age groups who skip megaship chaos.
Day to day, Brilliance feels like classic Royal with better light: the multi-deck Centrum for aerial shows and evening energy, Pacifica Theater production nights, and glass elevators that keep the ocean in view. Soft pockets exist in the adults-only Solarium and Viking Crown Lounge. Lively hours land at Starquest and the pool deck outdoor screen.
We like her for guests who want classic Royal DNA without Icon-scale megaship crowds. Cabin strategy is Radiance-familiar. Standard balconies are the volume play; stretch into suites when you want Concierge Club access and more living room.
Watch for cabins under the Lido or beside elevator banks. Noise is the tradeoff on any midsize Royal. Specialty dining is the evening upgrade path: Chops Grille, Giovanni’s Table, Izumi, and Rita’s Cantina sit beside Minstrel and Windjammer.
Versus Oasis and Icon sisters, Brilliance trades neighborhood wow for ports and seasonal patterns larger ships skip. Named in Port Harwich, England, on July 13, 2002, with Marilyn Ofer as godmother, she began inaugural Norwegian Fjords sailings later that month.
Radiance-class design emphasizes glass architecture, including glass elevators and a tall atrium wall, on a midsize footprint relative to later Oasis and Icon ships. A major 2013 drydock added venues such as Giovanni’s Table, Izumi, Rita’s Cantina, Park Cafe, Chef’s Table, R Bar, and Vintages, plus an outdoor movie screen and nursery.
An April–May 2025 drydock at Chantier Naval de Marseille covered routine maintenance, classification work, and hull refresh. Commercial patterns rotate seasonally: Western Caribbean from Tampa in winter, Baltic Europe from Harwich in summer, Canada and New England foliage from Boston in fall, plus transatlantic repositioning.
