Our take · opinion

XL energy, festival twist

We see Carnival Festivale as the next XL Fun Ship built for families who want megaship neighborhoods and music-forward zones—without the BOLT coaster her sisters carry. Port Canaveral Caribbean weeks are the brief.

We experience Festivale as Excellence-class Carnival at full volume: six themed zones instead of one endless hallway. Grand Central handles day-to-night atrium energy; Studio 724 and The Festival Zone lean music and LED spectacle; Summer Landing is the outdoor hang with BBQ and the infinity pool; The Ultimate Playground puts WaterWorks Ultra and SportSquare under Sunsation Point. Our advice is simple—pick a home-base zone on day one so a ship this size works for you instead of against you.

Cabins follow the XL playbook, and strategy matters. Standard balconies are the volume play; we’d pressure-test Havana patio rooms when your group wants a private sundeck pocket, Family Harbor when kids need Camp Ocean proximity, and Cloud 9 Spa when wellness perks matter. Carnival Excel suites unlock Loft 19, which is worth it if VIP flow is the priority, so ask us about lower decks versus under the Lido before you lock a category.

Evenings, we lean on complimentary staples like Guy’s Burger Joint and Guy’s Pig & Anchor, then spend specialty money on Emeril’s Bistro 724, Fahrenheit 555, or Rudi’s Seagrill. Versus Mardi Gras and Jubilee, she’s the same XL bones with a festival identity and no roller coaster—trade BOLT for expanded waterpark hours. Confirm your sailing below and we’ll match cabin and add-ons.

She's for
  • Multi-gen families who want XL neighborhoods and WaterWorks Ultra
  • First-timers chasing maximum Fun Ship energy from Port Canaveral
  • Groups who prefer music zones and aquapark nights over a roller coaster
  • Shoppers comparing Mardi Gras / Celebration / Jubilee for the newest XL twist
She's not for
  • Travellers chasing hush, small-ship calm, or white-tablecloth luxury
  • Anyone who gets stressed in peak pool and elevator crowds
  • Guests who want BOLT as a non-negotiable XL signature
Honest caveat

At full load, peak hours on WaterWorks Ultra, the main Lido pools, and elevators need patience. We’ll steer you toward quieter cabin banks and off-peak dining so you skip the worst bottlenecks.

Show ship backgroundHide ship background

Carnival Festivale is the fourth CCL XL / Excellence-class ship from Meyer Werft Papenburg (yard S724). Steel cutting began April 2025 and keel laying followed in August 2025, with delivery aimed at the 2027 season. She follows Mardi Gras, Celebration, and Jubilee, with Tropicale still ahead on the class list; size, decks, and capacity live on the fact sheet on this page.

She’s LNG-powered with azimuthing thrusters and a Silverstream hull air-lubrication system meant to cut resistance. Unlike prior XL builds that mixed large prefab sections from partner yards, Festivale’s hull was assembled entirely at Papenburg. Carnival partners with Shell for LNG bunkering at Florida hubs, and fleet-first glass-door showers plus 5G cellular (shared with Jubilee) sit in the product brief.

Inaugural plans point to a May 2027 Southampton-to-Port Canaveral transatlantic, then Bahamas and Eastern/Southern Caribbean weeks from Port Canaveral that typically include Celebration Key and Half Moon Cay. Confirm the voyage below (deployment can shift) and match cabin and zones to that sailing.
