Costa bones, Fun Ship energy
Carnival Splendor is Carnival’s only Costa Concordia-class hull wearing full Fun Ship colors. We’d book her for families and value hunters who want WaterWorks, a real spa neighborhood, and Australia–South Pacific weeks without needing the newest Excel-class megaship.
We experience Carnival Splendor as a lively mid-2000s Fun Ship built on Costa Concordia-class bones that Carnival kept and leaned into. The retractable glass dome over the main pools and the oversized Cloud 9 Spa still set her apart from Dream-class sisters. Day to day she delivers classic Carnival energy through WaterWorks, adult-only Serenity, Camp Ocean for kids, and a busy atrium circuit that never pretends to be hush.
Cabins follow the Concordia playbook more than Excel-class newbuilds, so standard balconies are the volume play for most groups. We would push Cloud 9 Spa cabins when wellness is the reason you are sailing and save Captain’s Suites for parties that truly need space for five. Ask us about lower decks versus under the Lido before you lock a category, because noise is always the tradeoff on a ship this energetic.
Evenings, we lean on complimentary staples like Guy’s Burger Joint, Masala Tiger, and Pizzeria del Capitano, then spend once or twice at Fahrenheit 555 or Mad Sizzle. Versus newer Fun Ships, Splendor feels more spa-forward and a little less “latest hardware,” which is fine when Australia or South Pacific itineraries are the point. Show ship backgroundHide ship backgroundCarnival Splendor was built at Fincantieri Sestri Ponente as hull 6135 and delivered in 2008 for Carnival Cruise Line. She is the only Concordia-class ship in the Fun Ship fleet, with Costa sisters including Serena, Pacifica, Favolosa, and Fascinosa. Volume and passenger counts live on the fact sheet on this page.
Originally designed for Costa, she entered Carnival service with fleet-leading spa volume, a two-deck Cloud 9 complex, and a retractable glass dome over the main pool. Fun Ship 2.0 work across 2016 to 2019 added Alchemy Bar, RedFrog Pub, Guy’s Burger Joint, Serenity, and redesigned WaterWorks, and a 2024 Singapore drydock refreshed public spaces, balconies, youth areas, and dining including Mad Sizzle. Another Singapore drydock is planned for 2027.
Deployment has centered on Australia and South Pacific from Sydney after earlier California, New York, Asia, and Journeys chapters. Temporary Alaska sailings have also appeared when schedules required it. Confirm the voyage below, then match cabin and add-ons to who is sailing.
