Our take · opinion

Concordia fun, pirate aqua twist

Our take: Costa Favolosa is Concordia-class Costa with a family-friendly twist—pirate Aqua Park, teens’ 4D cinema zone, and Italian dining rhythms for Mediterranean weeks that still feel classic Costa.

We experience Costa Favolosa as Concordia-class Costa with a slightly more playful outdoor story than some sisters: the pirate-themed Aqua Park, a teens’ zone with 4D cinema and dance floor, and Joe Farcus celebrity-and-destination décor throughout. She suits European-style multi-gen groups who want Mediterranean weeks with lively evenings rather than Freestyle American megaship habits. Expect fixed dining seatings, Pepper-robot embarkation help, and busy nights from Teatro Hortensia through Discoteca Etoile.

Cabins are Concordia-class practical with many insides and oceanviews, balconies on roughly two-fifths of rooms, plus Samsara spa staterooms (including suites with balcony Jacuzzis) and a small solo inventory. Grand Suites sit at the top with larger terraces, but under-Lido and promenade-adjacent banks still need a hard look before you pay for quiet. Ask us before you pick a balcony solely because it looks midship on a deck plan.

Dining spans Ristorante Duca di Borgogna and Ristorante Duca d'Orleans, Samsara for spa-cuisine guests, specialty nights at Club Favolosa, and Destination Dishes in the main rooms. Versus newer Costa LNG ships, Favolosa is classic Italian hardware with kids and aqua energy that Fascinosa’s movie theme doesn’t push as hard. Confirm the sailing below and we will set expectations on language mix, dining seatings, and quieter cabin pockets.

She's for
  • Families who want Italian Med product with kids clubs and aqua play
  • Multi-gen groups who enjoy lively evenings and themed lounges
  • Guests curious about Samsara spa cabins or Club Favolosa nights
  • Shoppers who prefer classic Costa scale over newest megaships
She's not for
  • Guests who need Freestyle dining and English-first megaship habits
  • Travellers chasing hush and ultra-luxury suite living
  • Anyone who wants brand-new LNG Costa hardware only
Honest caveat

She’s Concordia-class Costa with fixed dining and a European guest mix—great product, not Freestyle-American habits. We’ll walk language, seating, and cabin tradeoffs before you book.

Costa Favolosa is Costa’s fourth Concordia-class liner, built at Fincantieri Marghera and entered service in May 2012. Sisters include Costa Fascinosa, Costa Pacifica, Costa Serena, the lost Concordia, and platform cousin Carnival Splendor. The name was chosen by public contest (“favolosa” meaning fabulous), and interiors by Joe Farcus lean on celebrities, movie stars, and exotic destinations, with hundreds of original artworks aboard.

Signature Concordia hardware includes Asian-themed Samsara Spa with its restaurant, a retractable glass roof over the pool with a giant movie screen, and a Grand Prix driving simulator. Favolosa-specific touches include six apartments with private veranda Jacuzzis, a dedicated teens’ zone with 4D cinema, and an outdoor pirate-themed Aqua Park. Pepper robots assist guests fleetwide with embarkation and onboard information.

Deployment historically focuses on Mediterranean sailings from Italian hubs such as Savona and Genoa. Confirm this sailing’s homeport and itinerary on the page below before treating any pattern as fixed; specifications sit in the fact sheet.
