Our take · opinion

Silver by AMADEUS calm

We book this hull as Amadeus Silver III—rebranded Silver by AMADEUS—for couples who want 170-guest Austrian river weeks on the Moselle, Rhine, Main, and Danube. French Balcony light, Cafe Vienna sweets, and soft lounge evenings define her; she’s not a megaship or an Explora ocean yacht.

Day to day, we experience Silver by AMADEUS as classic Luftner river calm: enrichment talks and local performers in the Panorama Lounge & Bar, wine-and-library hours in the Amadeus Club, and pastry pauses at Cafe Vienna. When weather cooperates, we send guests to the River Terrace and the Sun Deck for putting green, giant chess, shuffleboard, and a 2023 pickleball court, plus the passenger-accessible wheelhouse when bridges allow. There is no pool or outdoor Jacuzzi by design; shore days and bikes do the heavy lifting.

Cabin strategy is the real booking lever across Haydn, Mozart, and Strauss decks. We steer most pairs toward French Balcony rooms when floor-to-ceiling glass matters after long touring days, and stretch to Amadeus Suites for the step-out balcony, walk-in wardrobe, and daybed footprint. Window cabins with non-opening glass are the rate saver only when itinerary beats outdoor air—confirm those banks with us if morning river light is non-negotiable.

Dining centers on the forward Panorama Restaurant: buffet breakfast, flexible lunch service, and five-course dinners with complimentary regional wines. Versus newer Imperial-class sisters, Silver III’s trade is proven Silver-class hardware and quieter evenings against less flashy public rooms. Ask us French Balcony versus Suite and which Moselle–Rhine–Danube embarkation fits how you travel; sailings on this page show current inventory.

She's for
  • Couples wanting quiet Amadeus river weeks
  • Guests who value French Balcony glass after shore days
  • Adults who like bikes, enrichment talks, and soft evenings
  • Shoppers comparing Silver-class value to newer Imperial sisters
She's not for
  • Anyone expecting an Explora Journeys ocean yacht
  • Travelers who need a pool or lively nightlife circuit
  • Guests who will hate fixed-window Window categories
Honest caveat

Listing labels can say Explora, but CM specs describe Amadeus Silver III river hardware—not an Explora ocean yacht. Confirm vessel identity with us before you lock fare.

Amadeus Silver III (marketed as Silver by AMADEUS after the 2025 Luftner brand refresh) is a 2016 Austrian riverboat owned by Luftner Cruises and operated under Amadeus River Cruises. Sisters include Amadeus Silver II (2015) and Amadeus Imperial (2020). Germany-flagged and registered in Cologne, she carries about 168–170 guests with roughly 46 crew across Moselle, Rhine, Main, and Danube programs.

The hotel product lists 84 staterooms on four decks (Haydn, Mozart, Strauss, plus Sun Deck): twelve Amadeus Suites with step-out balconies, fifty-four French Balcony cabins, and eighteen fixed-window rooms. Public spaces include the Panorama Restaurant, Panorama Lounge & Bar, Amadeus Club, Cafe Vienna, River Terrace, spa, hair salon, gym, complimentary shore bikes, and a 2023 Sun Deck pickleball court—without a swimming pool or outdoor Jacuzzi.

Deployments rotate across Central European river themes rather than a single forever homeport. Confirm embarkation city, cabin inventory, and dates for your sailing on this page; specifications sit in the fact sheet below.
