Koningsdam
Where she is right now
Pinnacle-class, music-led calm
We experience Koningsdam as Holland America's lead Pinnacle-class ship: larger than classic HAL midships, still musically themed and adult-leaning, for couples and multi-gen groups who want polish without megaship chaos.
Koningsdam feels like Holland America turned up one notch, with a three-deck atrium, the string-quartet sculpture, and World Stage evenings that still read grown-up. Two pools actually matter outdoors, and energy stays balanced with live music and dining-forward nights more than club circuits. We send her to guests who outgrew tiny classic ships but still want conversational decks, enrichment pockets, and a calm pace after dinner.
Cabins are mostly balcony volume around 180 square feet, which is the practical HAL sweet spot. We book Family Oceanview when kids share the party, and Studio singles when one traveler wants a purpose-built room without paying a painful single supplement. Suite guests in Neptune and Pinnacle unlock Club Orange, which brings priority services plus the exclusive restaurant and is the clear step-up path on this ship.
Ask us about lower decks versus under public venues before you lock a bank, especially with light sleepers. Dining is a HAL strength, from Pinnacle Grill energy to Club Orange mornings and evenings, plus specialty concepts that beat a pure buffet week. Versus Nieuw Statendam and Rotterdam, Koningsdam is the class prototype with the same music DNA; confirm Fort Lauderdale, Alaska, or seasonal Med sailings below and we will match Club Orange versus a smart balcony.
- Couples who want modern HAL without megaship crowds
- Multi-gen groups fine with expanded kids clubs, not waterparks
- Solo travelers using purpose-built Studio cabins
- Food-forward guests stepping into Club Orange suites
- Thrill-seekers chasing slides, coasters, or party decks
- Anyone who wants ultra-intimate luxury yacht scale
- First-timers set on the loudest big-ship entertainment week
The wrong balcony can sit under late music venues or near elevator banks on this lively-for-HAL atrium ship. Ask us about quieter banks before you lock a category, especially with light sleepers.

Show ship backgroundHide ship backgroundMS Koningsdam is Holland America's first Pinnacle-class ship from Fincantieri Marghera (yard 6241). The keel was laid in February 2015, she floated in March 2016, and she was delivered on 1 April 2016. Queen Maxima christened her in Rotterdam on 20 May 2016, and the name honors King Willem-Alexander with HAL's traditional dam suffix.
At about 99,900 GT and roughly 2,650 to 2,700 lower berths, she ranks among HAL's largest ships. Interiors by Tihany Design and Yran and Storbraaten lean on music themes, including the skylight atrium sculpture and two-level World Stage. Fleet firsts at debut included dual pools, family oceanviews, and purpose-built studios.
Club Orange later concentrated suite perks and exclusive dining, while Greenhouse Spa and Sea View adults retreat round out wellness. Sisters Nieuw Statendam (2018) and Rotterdam (2021) share the class, and Cunard's Queen Anne uses related platform DNA. After Mediterranean premiere seasons she settled into Caribbean patterns from Port Everglades, with later Alaska and seasonal programs; confirm the current homeport and itinerary on this page.
