Our take · opinion

Prima Plus, turned up loud

Norwegian Aura is NCL’s biggest Prima Plus hull—Freestyle energy with more slide deck, more solo inventory, and a Haven nest on top. We’d put lively families and friend groups here when they want Ocean Boulevard buzzing more than hush.

We experience Norwegian Aura as Prima Freestyle turned up a notch. Ocean Boulevard wraps the promenade with infinity pools and Indulge Food Hall, Penrose Atrium pulls the social gravity midship, and Ocean Heights stacks slides, a ropes course, and Midway games into a four-deck thrill zone. Our advice is simple: pick a home-base pocket on day one so you enjoy the energy instead of chasing every queue.

Cabins are where Aura gets interesting for mixed parties: Studios plus new solo Inside, Oceanview, and Balcony tiers finally give singles real choice, while standard balconies stay the volume play. We steer suite shoppers toward The Haven, including the first three-bedroom duplexes, when they want a quiet key without leaving a lively ship. Ask us about location under Ocean Heights or beside elevator banks before you lock a category.

Evenings, we lean on complimentary Hudson’s and The Commodore Room, then spend cover charges on spots like Onda by Scarpetta or Los Lobos Cantina when the group wants a just-because night. Versus earlier Prima sisters, Aura is the bigger, methanol-ready chapter with more outdoor recreation muscle and a louder family day deck. Confirm your Mediterranean debut or Miami Caribbean week below, then we will match cabin, Haven, and dining strategy to who is sailing.

She's for
  • Families and friend groups who want Prima Freestyle with bigger thrills
  • Solo travelers eyeing Studios and the new solo balcony/oceanview tiers
  • Haven shoppers who still want a lively ship underneath the suite key
  • First-timers who like flexible dining over rigid main-seating rituals
She's not for
  • Travellers chasing quiet luxury or expedition intimacy
  • Anyone who gets stressed by slide queues and atrium crowds
  • Shoppers who want a classic small-ship itinerary over onboard spectacle
Honest caveat

At full load, Ocean Heights slides and peak atrium elevators will test patience. We’ll steer you toward quieter cabin banks and off-peak dining so you skip the worst bottlenecks.

Norwegian Aura is a Prima Plus-class newbuild from Fincantieri’s Marghera yard near Venice for Norwegian Cruise Line. She sits at the large end of the Prima family at about 172,000 GT, with roughly 1,976 staterooms across a 20-deck hull. Floated in April 2026, she is scheduled for a May 2027 debut after the earlier Prima and Prima Plus sisters Prima, Viva, Aqua, and Luna.

Unlike the first Prima ships, Aura and her 2028 sister are methanol-ready in addition to conventional marine gas oil—a late contract change that also shifted delivery timing. Interior and public-space partners include AD Associates, SMC Design, Rockwell Group, Studio Dado, and Piero Lissoni for key suite work, including the line’s first three-bedroom Haven duplexes.

Inaugural plans point to a Mediterranean maiden from Trieste in May 2027, then Caribbean seasons homeported in Miami with Eastern and Western week patterns. Confirm the voyage on this page before treating any debut date or homeport as locked.
