Freestyle with a racetrack
Our take: Norwegian Encore is Breakaway Plus Freestyle at full volume—go-karts, aqua slides, Broadway nights, and an expanded Haven. We’d put flexible families, friend groups, and solo travelers here when they want choice over set dining times.
We experience Encore as NCL’s last Breakaway Plus statement: The Waterfront for sea-breeze evenings, a busy pool deck with cantilevered whirlpools, and the Speedway go-kart track when someone wants deck-19 adrenaline. The aqua park’s dual loops and racing slides keep kids and teens occupied on sea days. After the 2024 refresh, adults get Spice H2O aft instead of laser tag, so Freestyle still has a quieter outdoor pocket when the main deck is loud.
Cabins are the usual Freestyle mix across balconies, insides, and connecting family layouts for mixed groups. Studio cabins with the Studio Lounge are the solo win, while Spa Balcony rooms unlock Mandara thermal access after the drydock recategorization. The Haven remains the real ship-within-a-ship with keycard courtyard, private pool, and Haven restaurant if your group will actually stay upstairs; ask us about midship versus under-venue banks before you lock a category.
Dining spans complimentary MDRs plus Onda by Scarpetta, Cagney’s, Palomar, Q Texas Smokehouse, and teppanyaki theater for specialty nights. The class brief expands Freestyle dining, The Waterfront, and an enlarged Haven versus earlier Breakaway ships, plus the Scuderia Ferrari go-kart Speedway shared with Joy and Bliss. A November–December 2024 drydock at Damen Brest added Spice H2O, expanded Cagney’s and Teppanyaki, converted Ocean Blue into Palomar, created Spa Balcony access to a new Mandara Thermal Suite, and upgraded premier Haven suites.
