Prima-class Freestyle with room to breathe

We experience Norwegian Prima as NCL’s lead Prima-class ship: wide outdoor decks, Ocean Boulevard, and freestyle dining without Breakaway-Plus density. We’d put active couples and families here when go-karts and infinity pools matter more than megaship neighborhoods.

Onboard, Ocean Boulevard wraps Deck 8 with infinity pools and glass Oceanwalk bridges, while Prima Speedway and The Drop pull the loud outdoor energy aft. Indulge Food Hall keeps lunch flexible across eleven eateries, and Vibe Beach Club gives adults a quieter sun pocket when the kids’ aqua park peaks on sea days. Freestyle pacing means you design the day instead of chasing set seatings, which is the freestyle promise done with more outdoor room.

Cabin strategy decides the week on Prima-class hardware. Standard balconies are the volume play, but we’d stretch into Club Balcony Suites when square footage matters for longer Caribbean weeks. The Haven aft suites sit over private lounges and a dedicated restaurant, which is great for privacy and wrong if you want to live midship by the action.

Ask us about banks under the speedway or near late venues before you lock a guarantee. Evenings run freestyle in Hudson’s or The Commodore Room, with specialty stops like Onda by Scarpetta and Los Lobos Cantina. Versus older Breakaway ships, Prima trades Waterfront density for bigger cabins and outdoor space, so confirm your sailing on this page and ask us which cabin bank fits your sleep style before you book.

She's for
  • Active couples who want go-karts, infinity pools, and freestyle dining
  • Families who like kids clubs without Oasis-scale crowds
  • Haven shoppers chasing a private aft suite neighborhood
  • First-timers who want modern NCL without a megaship maze
She's not for
  • Travellers chasing hush and small-ship calm
  • Guests who want traditional set dining every night
  • Anyone who needs Oasis-style neighborhood wow at every turn
Honest caveat

Wrong balconies sit under Prima Speedway or late Ocean Boulevard energy. Ask us about quieter banks before you lock a category, especially with light sleepers.

Norwegian Prima is the 2022 lead ship of NCL’s Prima class (formerly Leonardo), built by Fincantieri at Marghera near Venice as hull 6298. At roughly 143,535 GT with about 3,215 lower berths, she is the direct sister to Viva (2023), with larger Prima Plus sisters Aqua and Luna following later in the decade.

The design emphasizes expanded outdoor public space versus Breakaway Plus ships: a 360-degree Ocean Boulevard promenade, infinity pools, a go-kart track, a dry slide, and an aft Haven complex designed with Lissoni & Partners. Power is diesel-electric with ABB Azipods, and the ship flies a Bahamas flag from Nassau.

After a Northern Europe inaugural season and early Galveston and Miami winters, Prima’s program has rotated among Port Canaveral, New York, and Caribbean routes, with New Orleans planned for winter 2026–2027. Confirm the exact homeport on the sailing you want. Specs and live inventory on this page are the check before you book.
