Oceania Sonata is the lead Sonata-class newbuild for Oceania’s adults-only foodie brand—larger than the old Regatta sisters, still about cuisine over adrenaline. We’d put her for couples who want suite-heavy calm and reservation dining, not a megaship week.
We experience Oceania Sonata (on plan) as Oceania saying the next chapter is bigger public rooms without abandoning the culinary brief that built the brand. Expect light-filled lounges, a keycard Suite & Concierge Lounge, and a day that revolves around restaurants rather than slides or nightlife scoreboards. Our advice is simple: book her for the food calendar and destination pacing, not for megaship adrenaline.
Cabins are the upgrade story on Sonata-class inventory before she even enters service. There are no insides or classic oceanviews; verandas and suites dominate, including expanded Owner’s Suites, redesigned Vista Suites, Oceania Suites, and new Horizon and Penthouse Deluxe categories. We’d still ask about aft venues and laundry-adjacent banks before you lock a room, because even refined ships have a few noisy corners worth skipping for light sleepers.
Dining is still why Oceania shoppers show up in the first place. Grand Dining Room, Jacques, Red Ginger, Polo Grill, and Toscana anchor the week, plus fleet-first concepts such as La Table and Nikkei Kitchen with complimentary but reservation-gated specialties. Ask us which suite tier actually changes the week versus a strong veranda; the inaugural sailings on this page are the planning surface until she finally enters guest service.
She’s a 2027 newbuild—venues and cabin live experience aren’t proven at sea yet. If you need a sailed Oceania product now, ask us about Vista-class alternatives before you wait on Sonata.
Oceania Sonata is the lead Sonata-class ship for Oceania Cruises, a modified Vista-class design ordered by NCLH from Fincantieri’s Marghera yard. Steel cutting began 4 June 2025; keel laying followed on 26 January 2026. Delivery and guest entry are scheduled for August 2027, with sister Arietta planned for 2029 and two further units later in the 2030s.
Sonata-class ships are the largest Oceania has ordered to date at roughly 86,000 GT, with a suite-heavy hotel mix and no interior or classic oceanview categories. Oceania has operated as an adults-only brand since January 2026, which frames the guest mix for this class. Culinary programming expands the familiar Oceania restaurant set with additional reservation dining concepts; detailed capacity figures live on the fact sheet on this page.
Published inaugural plans start with a mid-August 2027 Mediterranean voyage from Civitavecchia toward Trieste, followed by a late-year Barcelona–Miami transatlantic and a Miami–Los Angeles Panama Canal repositioning. Confirm dates and embarkation on the sailing you want; pre-delivery schedules can shift, and the sailings table on this page is the live check.
