Our take · opinion

Oasis Plus, still the play

Our take: Symphony of the Seas is Oasis Plus done for shoppers who want neighborhoods, slides, and Broadway-scale evenings without waiting for the newest Icon. We’d put a mixed family or friend group here when the itinerary and fare beat chasing the latest megaship.

We experience Symphony as a stacked resort town: Central Park for greenery and evening music, the Boardwalk for carousel energy, and the Royal Promenade for shops and people-watching. Ultimate Abyss, dual FlowRiders, the ice rink, and Royal Theater keep thrill and show energy high across busy sea days. Pick a home-base neighborhood on day one so a ship this size works for you instead of against you on peak sailings.

Cabins are where we earn our keep on Oasis Plus hardware. Balconies dominate, Central Park and Boardwalk view rooms feel special if you like looking inward, and Virtual Balcony insides are the weather-plan bargain without outside money. Family connecting layouts, the duplex Ultimate Family Suite, plus Coastal Kitchen and the Suite Sun Zone for suite guests are the categories we pressure-test first with multi-gen groups.

Evenings, we lean on the complimentary core and save specialty for one or two just-because nights with Wonderland or El Loco Fresh. Versus older Oasis sisters, Symphony is the wider Plus hull with a sharper Boardwalk brief; versus Icon, she’s the proven mega when sailing and price line up. Confirm your Miami voyage below and we’ll match cabin bank and neighborhood to who’s traveling together.

She's for
  • Multi-generational families who want Oasis neighborhoods without Icon-only pricing
  • First-timers who want maximum wow per night
  • Friend groups treating a cruise like a theme-park week
  • Oasis fans who prioritize sailing date and fare over newest-class hardware
She's not for
  • Travellers chasing hush and white-tablecloth calm
  • Anyone who gets stressed in crowds or long elevator waits
  • Shoppers who want a small-ship, port-intensive week over onboard spectacle
Honest caveat

At full load, peak hours on the pool deck, Ultimate Abyss, and elevators need patience. We’ll steer you toward quieter cabin pockets and off-peak dining so you skip the worst bottlenecks.

Symphony of the Seas is the second Oasis Plus-class liner from Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire. Ordered in 2014, her keel was laid in October 2016, she floated in June 2017, and Royal Caribbean took delivery on 23 March 2018. The PenaVega family christened her in PortMiami on 15 November 2018; she sits with Harmony, Wonder, and Utopia in the ultra-large Oasis Plus set.

The product brief was familiar Oasis neighborhoods at Plus scale: Royal Promenade, Central Park, Boardwalk, entertainment and sports zones, a youth complex, and wellness. Drydocks in Cádiz (2021 technical, 2023 hotel refresh) kept systems and public spaces current, including converting Jazz on 4 into a non-smoking casino room. Size and capacity numbers live on the fact sheet on this page.

Deployment has centered on Miami Caribbean weeks, with seasonal European chapters in some years. Confirm the voyage below for the current homeport pattern, then match neighborhood and cabin category to who’s sailing.
