Our take · opinion

Oasis energy, short-cruise dial

Our take: Utopia of the Seas is the Oasis-Plus ship we’d book when a family wants Royal’s full neighborhood circus on a short Port Canaveral hop. Perfect Day included, without committing to a seven-night Icon sailing.

We experience Utopia as Oasis done for the long weekend: Central Park, Boardwalk, Royal Promenade, pool-deck sports, Suite Neighborhood, and the Ultimate Abyss racing slides. She’s the sixth Oasis and fourth Oasis-Plus hull, close kin to Wonder, Harmony, and Symphony, with LNG tanks that cost her a few staterooms versus Wonder. Destination elevators help crowd flow, but she still rewards picking a home-base neighborhood on night one.

Cabins cover the Oasis spectrum: insides with Virtual Balconies, Boardwalk and Central Park views, family-friendly layouts, and loft suites including the Ultimate Family Suite. We’d book a Central Park or Boardwalk balcony when the group wants the neighborhood as a front porch; suite guests get Coastal Kitchen and the suite sundeck. Ask us about under-venue and late-night Boardwalk noise before you chase the lowest category on a short sailing.

Evenings run lively going on party: big theatre, ice rink, prom-deck buzz, and short-cruise energy that runs hotter than a seven-night Caribbean week. Versus Icon she’s the proven Oasis playground rather than the newest class; versus Wonder she’s the Port Canaveral short-cruise specialist right now. Confirm this sailing below and we’ll match cabin neighborhood to who’s traveling on the dates you pick on the dates you pick.

She's for
  • Families wanting max Royal thrills on a short Port Canaveral cruise
  • Multi-gen groups who know Oasis neighborhoods and want the newest Plus ship there
  • Friend groups treating a long weekend like a resort-at-sea
  • First-timers who want wow without a seven-night commitment
She's not for
  • Travellers seeking quiet sea days and formal-leaning evenings
  • Anyone overwhelmed by crowds, lines, and late Boardwalk energy
  • Shoppers who want Icon-class new neighborhoods over classic Oasis layout
Honest caveat

Short cruises pack the same megaship with less recovery time, so pools and slides peak hard. We’ll steer quieter cabin banks if you have toddlers or light sleepers.

Utopia of the Seas, on paper

Show ship backgroundHide ship background

Utopia of the Seas is Royal Caribbean’s sixth Oasis-class ship and fourth Oasis-Plus unit, built at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire. Ordered February 2019 and delivered June 14, 2024 after pandemic-related schedule shifts, she ran christening activity from Port Canaveral in mid-July 2024. The public inaugural sailing was the July 19, 2024 three-night Bahamas and Perfect Day cruise; tonnage and capacity figures are on the fact sheet.

Unlike earlier Oasis sisters, Utopia uses Wärtsilä dual-fuel engines capable of LNG and diesel, with tank space that trims stateroom count versus Wonder. Neighborhoods follow the Oasis map: Royal Promenade, Central Park, Boardwalk, entertainment and pool zones, youth areas, Vitality spa, and Suite Neighborhood. Signature thrills include Ultimate Abyss, FlowRider, rock walls, ice rink, and the large theatre.

Deployment has focused on short Port Canaveral Bahamas itineraries that typically include Perfect Day at CocoCay. Confirm this sailing’s length and ports below. Short-cruise patterns can shift, so match neighborhood and cabin type to the group sailing with you.
