Destination first, ship second

We book Viking Mars when the ports are the point: adults-only ocean cruising with veranda cabins, included excursions, and a calm Nordic design language. She’s for curious couples who want longer days ashore, not a floating amusement park.

The vibe is boutique-hotel quiet from morning coffee onward, and that is intentional. Explorer’s Lounge forward is where we send scenery hunters, Aquavit Terrace aft handles al fresco evenings, and a covered main pool keeps sea days civilized in northern weather. Entertainment stays low-key by design, so enrichment talks and itinerary pacing do the heavy lifting if you need late nightlife or kids’ clubs elsewhere.

Every stateroom has a private veranda, which simplifies the category conversation for most couples. Veranda staterooms are the volume play, while Penthouse and suite tiers step up space and service without inventing a megaship maze. We’d still pick location carefully on embarkation-heavy itineraries, because forward observation calm versus aft pool energy is the real decision for light sleepers.

Dining stays inclusive and unhurried across the venues that define Viking Ocean. The main Restaurant and World Café cover daily meals, while specialty nights at Manfredi’s and The Chef’s Table add variety without cover-charge anxiety. Versus river Viking or luxury yacht brands, Mars is the ocean template of identical sisters, destination-dense schedules, and spa access including the Nordic Spa thermal circuit, so confirm the sailing on this page and we’ll align cabin tier to your chosen route.

She's for
  • Adult couples who prioritize ports and overnight stays
  • Culture-minded travelers who want included excursions and Wi-Fi
  • Guests who prefer veranda cabins and Nordic Spa calm
  • Repeat Viking river cruisers stepping up to ocean
She's not for
  • Families traveling with children under 18
  • Party-seeking groups who want casino nights and waterpark thrills
  • Shoppers chasing megaship shows and specialty-fee dining mazes
Honest caveat

She’s destination-led, not entertainment-led. Sea days can feel quiet if you expected megaship energy. Tell us your pace and we’ll confirm whether Viking Ocean fits before you book.

Viking Mars is one of Viking Ocean’s identical Fincantieri-built sisters. Keel was laid in February 2021, the ship was delivered on May 12, 2022, and she was christened days later in Valletta, Malta. She shares the roughly 47,800 GT and 930-guest template with the rest of the ocean fleet.

The product formula is consistent across sisters and that consistency is the selling point. Guests get all-veranda accommodations, included shore excursions, Wi-Fi, beer and wine with lunch and dinner, and complimentary access to the Nordic Spa thermal areas. Signature spaces include the aft infinity pool, Aquavit Terrace, and the forward Explorer’s Lounge.

Itineraries favor Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, and longer repositionings with fewer sea days and more overnight calls. UK departures often use London-Greenwich, while Scandinavian seasons lean Bergen and related hubs. Confirm the specific sailing on this page for embarkation and dates, then review the fact sheet and sailings table below.
