The Viking Ocean blueprint

We treat Viking Star as the lead ship that defined Viking Ocean: adults-only, all-veranda, destination-dense cruising with Nordic calm. She’s for couples who want the template the whole sister fleet still follows.

Star set the tone for every Viking Ocean sister that followed her into service. Explorer’s Lounge is the scenery perch, Aquavit Terrace and the aft infinity pool own golden hour, and a covered main pool works in Scandinavian weather. The Nordic Spa, including the signature snow grotto, is complimentary thermal time rather than an upsell maze, and evenings stay lecture-and-lounge soft for guests who skipped Broadway-scale production on purpose.

Every cabin has a private balcony, which keeps the category story clean for couples comparing decks. Veranda staterooms are the volume play for most bookings, while Penthouse and suite tiers add space and service layers without a megaship category jungle. We still care about location on this class, so ask us about forward quiet versus aft pool energy before you pick a deck.

Dining is inclusive and familiar to Viking guests across the core restaurant set. The main Restaurant and World Café cover the daily rhythm, while Manfredi’s and The Chef’s Table add specialty nights without cover-charge friction. Versus her newer identical sisters, Star is the same product formula with lead-ship provenance rather than a different vibe, so confirm the sailing on this page and we’ll match cabin tier to the itinerary.

She's for
  • Adult couples who want the original Viking Ocean experience
  • Port-focused travelers who value included excursions and Wi-Fi
  • Guests seeking veranda cabins and Nordic Spa access
  • River-Viking alumni ready for ocean itineraries
She's not for
  • Families with children under 18
  • Nightlife seekers who want casinos and late dance clubs
  • Travellers who need megaship thrills and kids’ neighborhoods
Honest caveat

As the 2015 lead ship, she’s the class blueprint rather than a later sister with incremental hotel tweaks. If cabin-tech novelty matters most, ask us whether a newer sister fits better.

Viking Star is the first Viking Ocean newbuild and still the reference ship for the class. She was launched at Fincantieri and christened on May 17, 2015, in Bergen, Norway, establishing the roughly 47,800 GT, 930-guest, all-veranda template now shared across the identical ocean sister fleet.

The inclusive product debuted here and remains fleet standard across every sister that followed. Guests receive shore excursions, Wi-Fi, beer and wine with lunch and dinner, and complimentary Nordic Spa thermal access on every sailing. Signature design cues include the walk-around promenade, forward Explorer’s Lounge, aft infinity pool, and Aquavit Terrace.

Early seasons mixed Northern Europe and the Mediterranean with later world-cruise and long-segment deployments across multiple oceans. Embarkation cities rotate with the itinerary, and Bergen plus London-Greenwich appear often in European programs. Confirm the specific sailing on this page for the current homeport pattern, then use the fact sheet and sailings table below.
