Carnival Rewards Redesigns Sail & Sign Cards: Vertical Layout and Total Days Sailed Debut September 1
Carnival Rewards launches September 1, 2026 with vertical Sail & Sign cards that show your total days sailed — what repeat Carnival guests should opt into before VIFP retires.

What happened
Carnival Cruise Line is rolling out redesigned Sail & Sign cards when Carnival Rewards replaces the VIFP Club on September 1, 2026. President Christine Duffy shared the details in a June 9 Q&A with Brand Ambassador John Heald — the biggest visible change is a vertical card that displays your lifetime days sailed with Carnival, not just your tier color.
The loyalty overhaul arrives the same month VIFP retires. For the millions of guests who sail Carnival from Miami and other homeports, the new card is the everyday proof of how the program works — and a reminder that benefits do not start automatically.
What's changing on Sail & Sign cards
Trade coverage and Carnival's own video walkthrough describe a card that looks different the moment you pick it up at embarkation:
- Vertical layout with the Carnival Rewards logo replacing the old horizontal VIFP design
- Tier colors stay familiar — red, gold, platinum, and diamond — so experienced guests can still spot status at a glance
- Standard sailing info remains on the card, including muster station, dining assignment, and sail date
- A circular Carnival Days Sailed emblem in the lower-right corner shows your personalized total from your very first Carnival cruise
The card is more than branding. It is the on-ship ID that unlocks your cabin, charges purchases, and now advertises your loyalty history every time you tap it at the Lido buffet or casino.
Milestones, points, and opt-in deadlines
Under VIFP, milestone gifts often tracked how many cruises you had taken. Carnival Rewards shifts that math to days sailed:
- 50 days earns 5,000 Carnival Rewards points
- 100 days earns 10,000 points, with another 10,000 points for every 100 days after that
The automatic onboard credit that VIFP milestone guests received is replaced by redeemable points you can use toward onboard purchases — spa treatments, specialty dining, shore excursions, beverage packages — or future Carnival fares. You can also earn points on Carnival bookings, onboard spending, and purchases with the Carnival Mastercard.
Here is the deadline that catches repeat guests off guard: you must opt in to Carnival Rewards before benefits begin. Privacy rules prevent Carnival from enrolling you automatically, even if you have sailed for decades. The one exception is Carnival Mastercard holders, who are already opted in through the card's terms and conditions.
Carnival has not yet published final details on commemorative coins or milestone gifts at every tier. Point values on carnivalrewards.com are illustrative and may change before launch.
What this means for you
If you are a repeat Carnival guest, treat September 1 as a hard reset — not a seamless upgrade. Your VIFP history does not carry over as active Carnival Rewards status until you opt in at carnivalrewards.com/get-started. Longer sailings now move you toward milestones faster than short weekend hops, so a seven-night Caribbean run counts for more than a three-day Bahamas dash.
First-timers comparing Carnival against other lines should weigh the new spend-based rewards alongside total trip cost. Our cruise gratuities explainer helps you budget daily charges that sit outside your headline fare. Carnival's Next Course dining upgrades — a separate fleetwide story from this week — show the line is investing in the onboard experience while loyalty rules change.
When we checked on June 14, sample Carnival Miami Caribbean sailings on our site started from about $202 per person including taxes and fees — a directional sample across thousands of options, not a quote for your cabin. What to do next
Already booked for a sailing on or after September 1? Opt in before you reach the terminal so your new Sail & Sign card reflects Carnival Rewards status and your days-sailed total. If you hold a Carnival Mastercard, confirm your account is linked — you are already enrolled through the card, but linking ensures points post correctly.
