Celebrity Raises Daily Gratuities to $19.50 — How to Lock the Lower Rate Before You Sail

What happened

Celebrity Cruises raised its automatic daily gratuities by $1.50 per person effective July 29, 2026 — a fleetwide fee table change that shows up on every sailing night, not just specialty purchases. If you are booked on Celebrity or still comparing Caribbean and Bahamas weeks, the cabin fare tile is only part of the wallet math.

According to USA TODAY, the prior rates were $18 / $19 / $23 by stateroom category. Celebrity’s parent, Royal Caribbean Group, told the paper that gratuities are shared as part of crew compensation and remain in line with industry standards. Separate from the daily program, Celebrity still auto-adds a 20% gratuity on spa, beverages, specialty dining, and similar purchases — that piece did not change with this hike.

On a seven-night Veranda cruise for two, the daily table alone moves from $252 to $273 at the new $19.50 rate — $21 more for the couple over the week. Retreat guests see a larger absolute total because the starting daily rate is higher.

How to lock the lower rate

If you booked before July 29, 2026 and have not prepaid yet, Celebrity’s clarification path is practical: open My Celebrity Cruises and fully prepay gratuities no later than 48 hours before sailing to keep the original lower daily rate. Guests who already prepaid can leave the account alone.
