Two promos, two age rules

A parent comparing a four-person Royal Caribbean quote sees guests 3 and 4 listed at $0 cruise fare, feels the win, then scrolls to taxes, fees, and daily service charges still charged for every name in the cabin — and realizes "free" never meant free.

Royal is running two related offers right now, and they are not the same tool.

Kids Sail Free is for an additional guest 12 or younger (as of departure) sharing a stateroom with two full-fare guests on select sailings three nights or longer departing on or after August 26, 2026. Cruise fare for that extra guest can show as $0.

Free 3rd & 4th Guests can zero the cruise fare for third and fourth guests on select sailings departing August 26, 2026 through August 20, 2027 — and the age rule is broader than Kids Sail Free alone. That matters if your "extra" guests are teens or adults.

Trust the official booking window

Both offers apply to bookings made July 31, 2026 through August 3, 2026, per Royal's promotions terms and conditions.

Ignore longer book-by dates from secondary blogs unless Royal's own promotions page says the same thing. When we re-checked the official terms, the window still ended August 3, 2026 — not mid-September.

If you are reading this after that window closed, keep the math framework. Do not treat an expired book-by as live.

What 'free' still costs at checkout

$0 cruise fare is the first line of the quote. It is not the trip cost.

Royal's own Kids Sail Free guidance is blunt: the promo covers base fare only. Taxes, port fees, and gratuities still apply for every guest — including the "free" ones. Specialty dining and shore excursions are separate. The stateroom also has to sleep the whole party; a $0 fare does not invent a bunk.

When we checked on July 31, 2026, Royal Caribbean Miami sailings of 5–8 nights (non-repositioning) returned 225 options from about $536 per person including taxes and fees on our site. A sample Freedom of the Seas 5-night Bahamas & Perfect Day sailing from Miami on September 19, 2026 showed an inside lead-in around that floor — a double-occupancy lead-in, not a promo-stacked family total.

Even if guests 3–4 get $0 cruise fare under Free 3rd & 4th / Kids Sail Free, taxes and port expenses still apply to all four. A secondary report put standard-cabin gratuities around $18.50 per guest per day; on a five-night sailing that would be roughly $370 for four guests before drink packages or excursions. Treat that tip figure as a planning estimate until you confirm the rate on your booking path — then add it anyway, because tips do not vanish when fare does.

Blackouts, cabin fit, and BOGO stacking

Blackouts are not fine print theater. Official exclusions include Thanksgiving 2026, the Christmas/New Year window into early January 2027, listed Navigator of the Seas dates, Chinese New Year 2027, spring break March 5–April 4, 2027, and Alaska Cruise Tour windows. If school calendars only allow those weeks, this promo stack may not help you at all.

Cabin capacity is the real gate. One adult plus one child does not unlock Kids Sail Free the way two full-fare guests plus a qualifying third guest does. Run the party configuration the terms require — then confirm the category sleeps everyone.

Stacking can help. Under current promotions terms, BOGO60, Kids Sail Free, and Free 3rd & 4th Guests are combinable with each other. That can matter on a two-adult + kids cabin where second-guest savings and third/fourth $0 fare lines both apply. Still compare the cabin total, not each shiny line item in isolation. Who this fits (and who should skip)

Worth a serious look if you can honestly fill a triple or quad with two full-fare guests plus qualifying 3rd/4th guests, your dates clear the blackouts, and you are booking inside the official window on a select sailing.

Skip the "free" pitch if you are a two-adult couple who cannot fill a third berth, you are chasing blacked-out holiday weeks, or school calendars only allow Thanksgiving or Christmas sailings. This advice matters less for those shops — the occupancy rule is the deal.
