Edge design for design shoppers

We book Celebrity Edge when someone wants contemporary premium hardware—Infinite Veranda cabins, Magic Carpet, and The Retreat—without Oasis-scale crowds. She is the lead Edge-class ship, and she rewards couples and design-forward travelers more than theme-park families.

We experience Celebrity Edge as a design thesis that still has to work as a cruise. Grand Plaza sets a polished social tone, Eden carries aft evenings, and Magic Carpet moves between tender platform, dining perch, and pool extension depending on the day. The energy is stylish and social rather than go-kart loud, which is why we like her for couples who still want big-ship dining depth without Oasis-scale crowds.

Cabin strategy is the Edge conversation every time. Most guests should understand Infinite Veranda rooms before they book: the outer glass wall opens to create a balcony feel, but it is not a classic step-out veranda. AquaClass with Blu is our favorite wellness upsell, while The Retreat suites unlock Luminae and the private sundeck when the budget stretches, and we will flag decks under Rooftop Garden energy for light sleepers.

Dining is one of the reasons we still recommend the class. The four main dining rooms split the crowd, specialty rooms like Fine Cut and the Eden restaurant handle celebration nights, and suite guests lean on Luminae. Versus Solstice-class sisters she feels newer and more architectural; versus later Edge ships she is the original template with a 2023 Marseille refresh, so confirm Fort Lauderdale, Europe, or Australia-season sailings on this page.

She's for
  • Couples who want premium design without megaship chaos
  • AquaClass wellness travelers who value Blu dining
  • Design-forward first-timers comfortable with modern cabins
  • Retreat suite guests chasing private sundeck calm
She's not for
  • Families hunting waterparks and go-kart tracks
  • Guests who insist on a traditional open balcony railing
  • Party-ship shoppers chasing late club energy every night
Honest caveat

Infinite Veranda cabins use an opening glass wall, not a classic step-out balcony—some guests feel boxed in. If a traditional veranda matters, ask us before you lock an Edge stateroom category.

Celebrity Edge is the lead Edge-class newbuild from Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, ordered as Celebrity’s first clean-sheet ship since the Solstice class. Steel was cut in November 2016, the keel was laid in June 2017, and delivery followed on October 31, 2018 after about 23 months of construction.

She measures roughly 130,000 GT with about 1,467 staterooms, double occupancy near 2,900 guests, and signature Edge hardware: Infinite Veranda staterooms, the Magrodome-free Magic Carpet platform, Eden aft complex, Grand Plaza, and The Retreat suite neighborhood. Interior direction included a Nate Berkus partnership. A Marseille drydock in October 2023 handled class work plus hotel soft-goods refresh.

Malala Yousafzai christened the ship at Port Everglades on December 4, 2018. Early years mixed Fort Lauderdale Caribbean weeks with Mediterranean summers; after the pandemic pause she resumed Florida service in 2021 and later added Australia / South Pacific seasons.
