We experience Legend of the Seas as Royal Caribbean's third Icon-class resort at sea—built for families who want neighborhoods, slides, and suite-class perks without pretending she's a quiet ship.
On board, Legend reads as a floating resort town, not a hallway ship. Surfside is where we park little kids; Thrill Island and Category 6 handle the adrenaline; Central Park and The Hideaway give evenings a different gear. The energy stays lively most days, so hush-seekers should look at a different class entirely from day one.
Cabin strategy is the real booking decision on Icon. Infinite Balcony rooms are the smart weather plan for most families, and Family Infinite Balcony sleeps bigger groups with a dedicated kids' bunk space. Suite neighborhoods unlock quieter pacing, better dining access, and less elevator roulette when the budget and suite inventory allow.
Dining and nightlife span casual bites through specialty restaurants and the Royal Promenade circuit. Compared with Oasis-class sisters, Icon pushes the waterpark and family-suite story harder, with more neighborhood separation for different ages in the same traveling party. We'd book Legend for multi-gen trips that treat a cruise like a full resort week with kids and grandparents aboard.
Check sailings on this page for Fort Lauderdale Caribbean patterns after the inaugural Europe stretch. Ask us about quieter cabin banks and off-peak dining if crowd pacing is already on your mind before you put down a deposit.
At full load, Category 6, the main pools, and elevators need patience. We'll steer you to quieter cabin banks and off-peak dining so you skip the worst bottlenecks.
Legend of the Seas is Royal Caribbean's third Icon-class ship, built at Meyer Turku in Finland and delivered in June 2026. Sisters are Icon of the Seas, Star of the Seas, and the later Hero of the Seas. The name reuses a 1990s RCI title now sailing elsewhere as Marella Discovery 2.
Icon-class ships are LNG-capable with dual-fuel engines, shore-power readiness, and fuel-cell technology layered onto a neighborhood layout. Steel cutting began in January 2024, keel laying followed in October 2024, and float-out came in August 2025. Prefabricated cabins and public spaces were assembled through the Turku build chain typical of this class.
The inaugural program mixes Western Mediterranean roundtrips from Barcelona and Rome with a fall 2026 transatlantic into Fort Lauderdale. Caribbean sailings that follow include Perfect Day at CocoCay on several advertised routes, so confirm the specific sailing on this page because homeports shift through the launch year.
