Vista-class, still the quiet HAL bet

We experience Noordam as the last Vista-class Holland America ship built for guests who want midsize polish, Music Walk evenings, and Alaska-or-Asia itineraries without megaship noise. She’s for couples and soft multi-gen groups who value service over spectacle.

We experience Noordam as classic Vista-class Holland America: walkable decks, Signature of Excellence bedding, and evenings that settle into B.B. King’s Blues Club instead of a mega atrium party. Daytime energy stays around the Lido Pool, Sea View Pool, and the adults-only Retreat, while enrichment programming and Explorations Café carry the soft middle of the day when you want coffee and a quiet corner.

Cabins follow the Vista playbook—nearly 70% have step-out balconies, most in the 170–205 ft² band across roughly thirty categories. We’d book midship balconies away from Lido overhead for light sleepers, and we steer suite shoppers to Neptune Suites or Pinnacle Suites for Club Orange priority embarkation, concierge help, and the private dining section. Insides and oceanviews still work if you live in the lounges and don’t need a private deck every evening.

Dining stays HAL-familiar: the two-level Vista Restaurant, Italian nights at Canaletto, and steakhouse evenings at Pinnacle Grill, including the Le Cirque collaboration night once per cruise. Versus newer Pinnacle-class sisters she’s less flashy and more traditional—still our pick when you want comfortable HAL rhythm over the newest cabin tech. Ask us about Seattle and Asia sailings on this page before you lock a category.

She's for
  • Couples who want midsize HAL polish without megaship volume
  • Alaska and Asia cruisers who prefer classic Vista layout
  • Soft multi-gen groups who use Club HAL but live in adult venues
  • Guests who book for Music Walk and Pinnacle Grill nights
She's not for
  • Families hunting waterparks and high-energy kids neighborhoods
  • Shoppers who want brand-new cabin tech and infinite verandas
  • Party-first travelers chasing late-night megaship circuits
Honest caveat

She’s a 2006 Vista lead-era ship—2024 drydock refreshed carpets and systems, but cabin bathrooms and outlets still lag newer Pinnacle-class hardware. Ask us if modern cabin tech is your priority before you book.

Show ship backgroundHide ship background

Noordam is Holland America’s fourth and final Vista-class liner, built by Fincantieri Marghera (hull 6079) and delivered for a February 22, 2006 maiden voyage. Sisters are Oosterdam, Westerdam, and Zuiderdam. She was among the first ships delivered with the full Signature of Excellence package, and her stern was reshaped with an extended Lido Deck plus added cabins that later rolled fleetwide across the Vista sisters.

Refits keep her current without changing class identity. The November 2019 Victoria drydock added Billboard Onboard on Music Walk, Microsoft Studio in Explorations Café, suite furniture upgrades, and a pickleball court on the sports deck. A November–December 2024 Seatrium Singapore drydock covered class works, machinery overhauls, hull cleaning and paint, plus refreshed public rooms and stateroom soft goods including carpets and bathroom tiling.

Deployment currently mixes Seattle-centered Alaska seasons with Asia-Pacific stretches—Tokyo, Sydney, and Hong Kong appear in live inventory. Confirm the exact embarkation city and itinerary on the sailings list on this page, because homeports rotate by season.
