Princess Moves Final Payment to 120 Days and Raises Deposits — What to Do Before September 2

New Princess bookings from September 2, 2026 for 2027+ sailings need full payment 120 days out, higher deposits, and a stricter cancel schedule — here is who should lock in under today’s rules.

What happened

Princess Cruises is tightening how you pay for 2027 sailings: new bookings made on or after September 2, 2026 for voyages departing January 1, 2027 or later will require princess final payment 120 days before sailing — for every voyage length, including World Cruise and Circle Pacific segments. That replaces the prior 90-day final-payment window many shorter Princess sailings used.

According to Cruise Hive’s August 5, 2026 coverage of the travel-advisor notice, there is no grace period. If final payment is not received by the due date, the booking cancels automatically. Princess says it emails reminders 14 days and 7 days before that deadline so you are not blindsided.

What changes on September 2

Three pieces move together for those new 2027+ bookings, based on the August 4, 2026 agent email reported by Luxury Cruising and matching deposit tables in Cruise Hive and TheTravel coverage.

Final payment. Due 120 days before sailing across all lengths — not only the long voyages that already sat on an earlier calendar.

Standard deposits (per guest), by length band:

Voyage length Inside / ocean view / balcony / mini-suite Suites
5 nights or fewer $125 $250
6–9 nights $300 $600
10–44 nights $500 $1,000
45+ nights 30% of the fare (unchanged) 30% of the fare

A week-long non-suite deposit, for example, moves to $300 per guest under the new bands.

Cancellation fees for cruises under 45 days now align with that earlier final-payment date. The 100% fee applies at 60 days or less before sailing (previously 30 days on some shorter voyages). The ladder Luxury Cruising reported: 113–119 days 25%; 91–112 days 50%; 61–90 days 75%; 60 days or less 100%.

Cruise Hive noted that as of August 5, princess.com had not yet posted the updated schedules publicly. Princess has said the changes support guests, travel advisors, and inventory management and reflect broader industry practices — still confirm the live deposit and cancel text on your exact booking before you pay.

What this means for you

Treat this as a cash-timing and flexibility story, not a headline-fare story. After September 2, you will put more money down sooner, finish paying a full month earlier than many Princess shoppers are used to, and lose cancel flexibility sooner once you are inside that 60-day window.

If you already know your 2027 Caribbean or Alaska week and can finalize under today’s rules before September 2, locking the booking now can preserve the older payment and cancel schedule for eligible 2027+ voyages. If you prefer to keep shopping — comparing cabins, packages, or ships — budget for the new deposit bands and the 120-day final payment when you book after that date.

When we checked on August 6, 2026, sample Princess Caribbean sailings on our site started from about $633 per person including taxes and fees across 491 matching sailings — useful directional inventory while you decide, not a locked quote for your cabin. Stack packages carefully too: our Princess Plus and Premier packages value guide walks through that total-cost math, and the five cruise deal types to check before you book is a useful checklist if you are weighing “book now” versus “wait.” For a parallel Carnival Corp brand fee frame, see our Holland America onboard fees total-trip-cost guide.
